Kevin Ross – Club Ambassador

Kevin embodies the ethos of the club, having been a member since 2015. As a board member, he helps oversee club development but his day-to-day role is that of an ambassador for our wonderful community. In the past, he has been our Mr Monza, helping members when they attend the Italian Grand Prix get the most out of their trip. Honestly, there isn’t much about Monza or the Italian Grand Prix that Kevin doesn’t know – he really is a bit of an encyclopedia.

His fondest memories are of asking his father to change the TV channel in the 70s so he could listen to Murray Walker commentating on BBC2. Nowadays it would sound like he was talking down a bad phone line, but in 1976 it was the voice that drew Kevin into the wonderful world of Formula 1. When Nigel Mansell signed with Ferrari – the last personal pick from the great man Enzo himself before he passed away – Kevin knew he was going to be a Tifosi. Mansell’s stellar performance in his first outing in a scarlet car just sealed the deal, and Kevin has never looked at another team.

Mr Monza first made it to the Italian Grand Prix in 2006, and it was a memory and experience he will never forget. Michael Schumacher making the Tifosi’s hearts sing taking home victory only to break them just after by announcing his retirement from the sport. A highly emotional weekend, but one that lives deeply in Kevin’s memories. It might surprise you to know that it’s another Italian circuit, Imola, that is Kevin’s favourite. He also had his first visit to Imola in 2006 and seeing the incredible battle between Fernando Alonso and Schumacher from atop a terracotta roof to see Schumacher win was almost as emotional as Monza 2006!

As our club ambassador, it only feels fair to share with you Kevin’s reasons as to why you too should become an SFC Silverstone member: “There’s too many fantastic reasons to list them all, but the stand out has to be becoming part of an international family. It’s incredibly special to meet so many wonderful and interesting people from around the world at SFC global events and such a nice way to make lifelong friends. Sharing such special memories at events with those people binds you at a very emotional level and it’s something I will always cherish being an SFC Silverstone member.”
